Congratulations to Priscilla Elgersma, Ellie Rudolph and Annette Ross, paraprofessionals at Sands Montessori School who competed in the World Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Competition in Sarasota, Fla. last month. They each were members of The Kentucky Thorough-Breasts Dragon Boat Team, representing Southern Ohio and Kentucky.
Over 100 breast cancer survivors from all over the world compete on a 500-meter course. Dragon boating is the oldest continuously raced sport in the world, where teams of up to 20 individuals race by paddling in sync in a 14-meter-long canoe with a carved dragon head and tail.
The 22 members of The Kentucky Thorough-Breasts range from 27 to 80 years of age. They all are survivors of breast cancer or are currently undergoing treatment for the disease. Each believes that you can not only survive breast cancer, but thrive after diagnosis.
