It’s Time to Nominate CPS Colleagues for 2015 Hawkins Award

The Hawkins Awards, sponsored annually by Western & Southern Financial Group, aims to inspire and reward excellence among CPS' educators by honoring one individual who has elevated the educational process to an exceptional level.

Nominate your CPS colleagues for this prestigious award on the Western & Southern website. To be considered for the award, nominations must be submitted by CPS employees only.

The annual Hawkins Award winner receives a $10,000 personal award. The 2014 Hawkins Educator of the Year recipient was Mary Beth Platen, a teacher at Fairview-Clifton German Language School.  Hawkins photoLogo

The late Dr. Lawrence C. Hawkins was a renowned educator who earned a doctorate in education after serving as a fighter pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. He began teaching in CPS in 1945. He went on to serve as principal of Samuel Ach Junior High School, and, in 1957, became an assistant superintendent. He served on the Western & Southern Board of Directors from 1990-2009. Dr. Hawkins died in April 2009.
