Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction Richard Ross stopped by John P. Parker School on Dec. 3 to see for himself how the school was able to ensure that 100 percent of its students met the requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee last year.
John P. Parker received a Straight A Innovation Grant of more than $985,000 to launch “Great Readers, Great Leaders,” a program that equips teachers with the training and certifications needed to help struggling students meet grade-level reading requirements.
“Through our Straight A grant, we have been able to invest in our teachers to ensure that they deliver only the highest quality reading instruction to our students,” said Andrea Faulkner, manager of English/Language Arts for CPS. “We were delighted to host Superintendent Ross as he explores how the Straight A grants have been used to improve teaching and learning throughout Ohio.”
Dr. Ross’ visit to John P. Parker marks his final visit to an urban community as state superintendent of public instruction.
