Aiken’s Marching Band Takes First Place in Harvest Home Parade

Congratulations to the Aiken High School marching band and its director, Kara Barbee, for earning the first-place prize among marching bands featured in the Harvest Home Parade, a popular, annual West-side attraction. The band was one of several local high school marching bands to compete.

Just five years ago, Barbee launched Aiken’s new marching band with only two instruments. Through generous support from General Electric, its Partner in Education, Barbee was able to purchase new instruments. Today, the band is in top form, becoming a standout among more established bands throughout the city.

In addition to bragging rights, the Aiken marching band received a check for $500 from the Harvest Home Fair to support the music program.
